When you are sitting around the Thanksgiving table this year, give thanks that the cost of the dinner you are about to eat actually went down from last year. The American Farm Bureau Federation, which publishes an informal price survey of items found in a classic Thanksgiving dinner, estimate the average cost of dinner for 10 people to be $49.04. This is down $0.44 from last year.
The AFBF prices a full Thanksgiving dinner including turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a relish tray of carrots and celery, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, coffee and milk. They not only assume a family of 10 people, they leave some for leftovers!
The price of turkey was down this year from last, as were the rolls, peas, stuffing, fresh cranberries, and a few other items.
So enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner, knowing a little less came out of your pocket (while a lot more is going to your waistline!)
