Cornerstone is pleased to sponsor the Junior League of Portland’s 9th annual fundraiser to be held this Friday, February 10, 2017 at Cellardoor Winery.
The Junior League relies on funding through their Annual Event to support their mission which is “dedication to the improvement of the local community through public service, while cultivating leadership opportunities for women.” They are best known for their community impact which includes the founding of the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine, Traumatic Intervention Program (TIP) and most recently the Backpack Program which has now been passed to the Good Shepard’s Food Bank.
Their current focus area is ‘reaching youth at risk’ and they have two new community partners. The Community Partnership for Protecting Children and the Maine Freedom Project. They have established the following impact goals for their first year:
“CPPC – to build trust and establish relationships with at-risk communities. We are doing this through Neighborhood Connection Nights which allows at-risk families the opportunity to meet each other, build stronger relationships, hear about ways to engage in the neighborhood and enjoy fellowship over family style dinner. Our membership is coordinating and effecting these dinners.
Maine Freedom Project – to educate and train our membership and the local community on the prevention of sex trafficking and exploitation in the greater Portland area. We are doing this through local trainings that include speakers, movie screenings, book club discussions and the Red Sand Awareness Project.”
